Nokia N97 To Be Released The Same Date As The IPhone 3 G S

For quite some time, I have been secretly awaiting the Nokia N97. I am sure this will not be much of a surprise to my colleagues, as I am one of the few Windows users left at Work-Interactive. I am absolutely paranoid that I will one day walk into work to find my beloved grey and black computer replaced with a shiny white piece of Mac OSX artwork.

To my excitement, the Nokia N97 is set to release on the 19th of June. What is also intriguing is that Apple are releasing a faster, slightly upgraded version called the iPhone 3G S to compete with Nokia.

As a traveler (I recently moved to the UK from New Zealand), an important requirement in a Smartphone is a decent camera. The Nokia N97 will feature a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss Tessar Lens. This stacks up nicely against the iPhone 3G S, 3 megapixel camera, now featuring video functionality.

Another huge advantage to the Nokia N97 is the fact that it will have Skype installed by default. This way, most of my friends and family can call me from overseas at any time for free! The iPhone has sided with most of the telecommunication providers (who essentially purchase most of their phones) by blocking any use of Skype on their devices.

Data transfer speeds is another important function to me. The iPhone comes on top here, twice as fast with 7.2 Megabytes per second HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access).

The Nokia N97 comes with both touch screen and Qwerty keyboard. I have struggled in the past to use the iPhones touch screen, due to the size of my big fat fingers. Perhaps a bit of practice will get me by, but it will be interesting to see how a combination of the two will work out.

Probably the greatest benefit of the iPhone, potentially the game breaker, is the number of applications available to its users. They claim that there are now over 50,000 of them.

I’ll have to admit, after writing this blog entry, I feel I have moved one step closer to my iWorkBuddies. Was my initial judgment clouded?  Is it due to the fact that I waited far too long for the Nokia N97 that I recently forked out £130 for a brand new digital camera?

Though I am not a fan of the iPhones camera, I think that the latest update has definitely made my purchasing decision that much harder come the 19th of June!
